What Can We Do Here In Denia

We were told that if we had the time, we should enjoy a boat trip round from Denia to Javea then onto Altea and Benidorm. Local sightseeing was interesting in Denia around the area of the (ayuntamiento) building (town hall) along the Marques de Campo and the land mark sparkling tile dome over the Iglesia de la Asuncion church. The follow the signs and stroll up the few steps for the stunning view of Denia Bay. We discovered that the attractions in and around the castle shuts down between 1pm and 3pm (lunch).

There is an array of traditional brightly colored old houses surrounding the base of the castle adding to the atmosphere. We spent a few minutes at El Port in the area of the castle with its lively attractive restaurants looking out over the port area. If we had the time, we would have sampled the traditional rice based dishes such as Fideua a version of Paella. Paella recipes usually call for large quantities of meat and seafood. The more traditional restaurants here serve a version where the main ingredient is rice or noodles. I noticed a sign in many of these visitor attraction where for a fixed price of 46 € per person we could have sampled the tasting menu) a specialty of the El Raset just a short distance from a boutique hotel.

We Discovered A Sleeping Sentry

John our college age son was most intrigued by a next day visit to the Castillo (castle) that was constructed over the eleventh and twelfth century and is a major tourist attraction and we admired the view an took a lot of pictures around the castle.

My wife and I loved the peaceful view of the Mediterranean set against the pine clad hills and the city. Our younger daughter Mary loved touring the inside of the castle and the Palau del Governador Museum.

With two college-aged family members and their interest in history and ancient culture the other museums in Denia such as the Museo Etnologico. All of us loved the bit of a shopping spree along the main road of Calle de Marques de Campo. I must admit I had a secret yearning for golf and discovered the nearby Denia golf club.

Every member of our family loved discovering the beauty of the region along the N 332 highway. Our daughter Mary suggested a ride on the narrow gauge railway between Denia, Benidorm, and Alicante. This year round working city within the shadows of Mount Montgo. My wife became concerned when John our son expressed a desire to wind surf in the reflected wind from the Mediterranean Sea in the active water sport region.

What a starting day - Denia The Costa Blanca Quiet Jewel

The Rowe family Carol, Jason, Rebecca and myself arrived in this city inhabited by thirty thousand. It is the ancient city of Denia. We found our Denia hotel with many bars and little traditional restaurants. We were impressed by the fact that I had arranged for our rental car company to retrieve us from the arrival level of the Alicante Airport and drive us to our Denia hotel. When arranging our trip I used the Internet to secure our hotel, rental car and many of the attractions in and around Denia.

Just remember that Denia during the summer period is very hot. This is a working ancient city with a huge fishing fleet and is a city that makes its living from tourism. Out tour guide informed us that Denia offers the world one of the most important harbors in Europe. Here you can get connection by ferry to the island of Ibiza, Mallorca among others.
